In an effort to slow the potential spread of COVID-19 in our community, Kit Carson County government will be closing public access to buildings starting on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 8am. Staff will be providing limited essential services by appointment or via phone and online avenues. In-person contact for receiving essential services will have limited restrictions during this time. These adjustments to county services and public access will be in place until a further notice. These precautions will be continually evaluated and may be subject to change.

Operation changes include the following Kit Carson County Government Departments and will be updated as new information related to the COVID-19 situation becomes available.

The follow departments will be open to the public by appointment only until further notice:

Kit Carson County Clerk and Recorder/Elections – 719-346-8638 ext 301

•    All inmate visitation is cancelled until further notice

All correspondence for the County offices may be left in the Ballot Box on the south side of the courthouse, such as payments, license plate fees, etc.

There is also a drop-box at the Health and Human Services Building by the south entrance.

Kit Carson County is located on the I-70 corridor in East Central Colorado near the Kansas border. Encompassing 2,161 square miles, Kit Carson County is among the State's top livestock, wheat and corn producing counties. Founded in 1889, its county seat is located in Burlington, Colorado at the Kit Carson County Courthouse.

Home to over 8,000 residents, Kit Carson County's six primary communities offer a wide range of social and recreational opportunities including the historic Kit Carson County Carousel and Museum, Old Town, three golf courses, three public swimming pools, a number of well equipped community playgrounds and parks and the annual County Fair and PRCA Rodeo.
